Tunable Frequency Selective Surface Based on a Sliding 3D-Printed Inserted Dielectric

A novel mechanically tunable frequency selective surface (FSS) based on a sliding 3D-printed inserted dielectric is presented in this paper. This paper first introduces the working mechanism of FSS, which indicates that variable capacitance key to tunability. Based this, we design an all-metal bandpass FSS with certain thickness and matching cross-shaped dielectric. By changing insertion depth dielectric, resonance can be adjusted. To optimize performance, improved structure hollow support tripole slot proposed. range from 3.24 5.52 GHz (53%) good angular stability obtained simulation. verify idea, fabricate cross prototype by 3D printing mechanical engraving. Measured results show has continuous 3.61 5.89 (34.4%).
